What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a well-established intervention that emphasizes the identification and modification of maladaptive thought patterns and behaviors. This therapeutic approach facilitates an understanding of the interplay between thoughts, emotions, and actions, empowering individuals to cultivate healthier coping mechanisms. Through collaboration with your Renew Therapist, you can learn to challenge cognitive distortions and adopt more constructive beliefs, thereby enhancing their emotional well-being and overall quality of life. CBT has demonstrated efficacy in addressing a range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders.

What is DBT?

The “D” means “dialectical”, which is  a synthesis or integration of opposites. In DBT, dialectical strategies help both the therapist and the client get unstuck from extreme positions. The “B” stands for “behavioral.” DBT requires a behavioral approach.

DBT Therapy at Renew utilizes the model developed by Marsha Linehan, a psychologist and professor.   It was developed to bring better balance, peace and relationship into the lives of clients, friends, loved ones and family members.

We use DBT to assess the current situation and target behaviors relevant to our clients’ goals. First we work on solving  the problems, then we provide a path to get the change that you so desperately wish to see.

Why is DBT Effective?

DBT assumes that many of the problems exhibited by clients are caused by skills deficits. In particular, the failure to use effective behavior when it is needed is often a result of not knowing skillful behavior or when or how to use it. For example, deficits in emotion regulation skills are believed to be a core problem in individuals with borderline personality disorder, and these deficits result in the use of maladaptive behavior.
